Meet the Races

Tephra is the home of many unique peoples, and together they have brought on an industrial revolution the likes of which the world has never seen before. Skim down below to get a feel for the various races found in Tephra.

Human – Humans were not always the dominant race on Tephra; however, they are certainly now the most populous. Other races characterize humans based on their dependency on technology, their intense personalities, and their oddly round ears.

Ayodin - A race of people who live in the oceans, they have only recently started coming to the surface. In the past decades, the world experienced the great “Hurricane Wars” between the surface nations and the ayodin nations. It encouraged the advancement of many wartime technologies, as well as introducing many of the unique technologies that the ayodin possess.

Elves & Farishtaas - Elves are powerful creatures, uncivilized by modern conventions but noble in their intentions. People believe that long ago elves were an angelic peoples, but the mighty elves upset the divine powers and were cast aside. Today, elves are large, feral, and (some would say) gross looking. They are noble savages, living in the jungles and keeping to themselves.

A little over a century ago, a researcher discovered a deficit in the elves that he called “essence.” He created a synthetic essence that could be injected into an elf. With their essence full, they would morph back into a serene, long-bodied elf, known as a farishtaa. The farishtaas have become a ruling class high above the elven forests, and many elves pine for their chance to become farishtaas.

Unfortunately, however, not all farishtaas come out of the process with their minds entirely intact.

Gnomes - Gnomes are short fellows who have a deep connection with earth and nature. Though they claim that their powers are entirely explainable through scientific studies, gnomes can do things that humans would claim is almost magical. And though gnomes are short, they are not to be trifled with – their abilities to bend nature to their will is uncanny.

Some gnomes are “metal-deranged;” they are obsessed with metals like other gnomes love nature. These gnomes have fascinations with large machines and can become astute tinkerers.

Satyrs - Satyrs were not born, but created. By combining the gnome’s understanding of life with the ancient Haudi Empire’s understanding of alchemy, the Hauds created satyrs as the ultimate servants. Light, fast, and exceptionally empathetic, satyrs make great servants and runners. Since that time, many centuries ago, most satyrs have gained their freedom and live alongside humans. Free satyrs are often fun, rowdy, and prone to drinking (a habit that doesn’t affect them, as humans have ensured that satyrs are unaffected by alcohol).
